How do bacteria help maintain a healthy vagina, and what happens when this balance is upset?

We know that it’s healthy to have a variety of bacteria in our guts, but there’s one place a single type of bacterium is best: the vagina. How do vaginas of different women vary? We talk to science writer Kendall Powell about what she learned reporting for her Mosaic feature exploring these issues.

Hosted by Dr Buddhini Samarasinghe. Recorded on Friday 14 October 2016.
