Alex Riley

Alex Riley is a science writer who covers topics in evolutionary biology, conservation and health. His work has appeared in Aeon, Nautilus, NOVA Next, New Scientist, Hakai Magazine and on the BBC.

In July 2017, he wrote a feature for the Open Notebook on his experience with depression and how to manage a writing career while living with a mental illness. The positive reception that this piece received inspired his first book. To be published by Ebury (Penguin Random House) and Scribner (Simon & Schuster) in spring 2020, it will illuminate our relationship with depression and how we treat it. He lives in Bristol with his partner and their plants.
